Storefront Gets Sketchy is our periodic sketch review featuring some of the city’s most exciting new writers and performers. We hold an open call for submissions and then work with the writers to stage their sketches with our growing and ever-changing ensemble of talented performers. It is an opportunity for both new and seasoned writers to see a new idea, or an old one, performed and directed by motivated artists who love to make people laugh! We work with the writers by giving feedback to realize the sketch’s potential and encourage our performers to use their immense talents to bring that potential to life in a collaborative, communal atmosphere. To date, this review has connected 40+ writers and 95+ performers over thirteen shows, each better than the one before.
Many sketch groups use improv to assist and inspire their sketch writing. The process usually takes weeks or even months to figure out, but here at Writer’s Block we do it LIVE and in 30 minutes! The Storefront has created a show that will allow the audience to witness the entire journey of a sketch from improv set to scripted sketch. Two pairs of writers will team up with two improv groups and compete to see who can write the best sketch RIGHT IN FRONT YOUR YOUR VERY EYES!
Live at The Storefront is a new series of stand up showcases produced and organized by The Storefront. The purpose of this showcase is to give rising stand up comedians an opportunity to produce and perform their own stand-up special, without the financial liability. We pack the house with an energetic crowd and use the ticket proceeds to film / edit the set into a Netflix style comedy special for the comedians to use in festival / show submissions. Come check it out, and if you’re a stand-up who thinks they could produce and promote their special hit us up!
